LEGAL DISCLAIMER: Pursuant to Arizona public-record and correctional information practices, this page is for public guidance only. A Pima County inmate lookup result, booking number, pod location, listed charge, custody status, bond amount, or roster entry is not a conviction. All detainees are presumed innocent unless adjudicated guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction. Always verify custody status, release eligibility, bond, court dates, mail rules, visitation schedules, and final case disposition directly with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, Pima County courts, or qualified legal counsel.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department provides detention services for law enforcement agencies in metropolitan Tucson and throughout Pima County. The official inmate lookup lists people currently held in the Pima County Adult Detention Complex. This is the correct first place to check before calling the jail, paying bond, mailing money, sending postcards, scheduling a visit, or assuming a person has been released.

I. Pima County Jail Inmate Lookup in Tucson AZ

The official Pima County inmate lookup should be used before relying on any third-party jail directory. The roster contains information on individuals currently in the custody of the Pima County Adult Detention Center. To search, enter the inmate’s last name in the lookup field. If a result appears, record the person’s name, booking number, pod location, custody status, and any other visible identifying details before taking the next step.

If the arrest happened recently, do not assume a missing result means the person is free. Intake can involve transport, identification checks, fingerprints, medical screening, property inventory, bond review, court scheduling, housing assignment, and data entry before a public lookup appears stable. If the matter is urgent, call the jail at (520) 351-8111 rather than guessing from a no-result screen.

Recommended Pima inmate-lookup workflow:
  1. Open the official Pima County Sheriff inmate lookup.
  2. Search by the person’s legal last name first.
  3. Use spelling variations, middle initials, hyphenated names, or prior surnames if needed.
  4. Record the booking number and pod location because mail and money rules may require them.
  5. Check whether the person is at the Tucson Adult Detention Complex or tied to Ajo District Jail.
  6. Use court records for case status, final disposition, and official court documents.

Do not treat the inmate lookup as a complete criminal-history report. It is a custody tool. A jail charge label may later be amended, dismissed, reduced, enhanced, or resolved differently in court. A booking result does not prove guilt. A release from jail does not mean the case is over. If the question is employment, housing, licensing, immigration, custody, or legal strategy, verify through the court or legal counsel.

II. Tucson Main Jail vs Ajo District Jail

Pima County lists two jail locations: the Pima County Adult Detention Complex in Tucson and the Ajo District Jail in Ajo. The Tucson location is the main detention complex and the address most users need for bond, visitation reporting, jail records, property, inmate accounts, and many public-facing jail services. The Ajo location handles district jail needs in the Ajo area.

Before traveling, decide what you actually need. Inmate lookup is online. Bond is handled through the main jail lobby and electronic options. Onsite visits require reporting to the Main Jail Front Desk at 1270 W. Silverlake Road. Mail goes to a P.O. Box format, not simply the street address. Court case status is handled by the court system, not the jail lobby. A page that gives only one generic jail address is not enough for Pima County users.

Location trap: Do not send personal mail, money, court questions, and visitation requests to the same destination without checking the official rule. Pima County uses different workflows for inmate lookup, mail, bond, property, phone services, video visits, jail records, and court records.

III. Bond, Release Windows, TouchPay & Court Hearings

Bail bonds are accepted at the Pima County Adult Detention Complex Inmate Accounts Office in the main lobby at 1270 W. Silverlake Road. Surety and currency bonds posted by bail bond agents are accepted 24 hours a day at the Inmate Accounts Office window. Cash, credit, and debit card transactions are accepted at lobby kiosks 24 hours a day. Credit and debit card transactions may also be accepted online through TouchPay / GTL payment services or by telephone at 1-866-232-1899.

The bond page states that most bond transactions are processed within the hour, but no releases happen between approximately 10:00 PM after court concludes and 8:00 AM. ID validation is required for all bonds. The Inmate Accounts window accepts cash, cashier’s checks, or money orders for the exact bond amount. Jail staff do not provide change. The Sheriff’s Department is not permitted to recommend a bondsman or assist in contacting one.

Bond trap: Paying bond does not guarantee immediate release. Pima County warns that an inmate being bonded out may take up to five hours to be released, and individuals are not released between 10 PM and 8 AM because of security issues.

Before paying anything, verify whether the inmate has multiple charges, a warrant, a hold from another jurisdiction, probation issue, federal matter, immigration hold, court order, or pending video initial appearance. A person can have one bond paid and still remain in custody because another case or hold blocks release.

Initial appearances are conducted twice daily by video court. The official court-information page lists morning court at 9:00 AM and evening court at 7:00 PM. If an inmate is ordered released during video court, release processing begins after the court session concludes and can take up to five hours. This explains why a family may see a release order but still wait several hours before the person exits custody.

IV. GTL Phone, Voicemail, ConnectNetwork & Tablet Services

Pima County inmate phone service uses GTL / ConnectNetwork. A GTL AdvancePay prepaid account must be set up before an inmate can make calls or receive voicemail messages, and there must be enough money for the call to go through. To add funds, users need the inmate’s 9-digit PIN number. Pima County explains that zeros may need to be added in front of the inmate’s name number to make the 9-digit PIN.

Funds can be added through ConnectNetwork or by calling (800) 483-8314. The official phone page also lists a GTL voicemail system. To leave a voicemail, call (520) 448-3426, select the language, enter the inmate’s name number, and leave a message after the beep. Messages can be up to two minutes long, cost $2.00, and are non-refundable.

Tablet services are also provided by GTL’s GettingOut. Tablets allow incarcerated individuals to access video visits, messages, photo sharing, education content, and approved multimedia. Tablets are provided at no cost to incarcerated individuals, but premium features may cost money. To fund tablet-related features, the inmate may need money in a PIN Debit account through ConnectNetwork, while family and friends may also need funds in a GettingOut Family & Friends account.

Communication checklist:
  • Use ConnectNetwork / GTL for AdvancePay phone accounts.
  • Use the correct 9-digit PIN / name number format before adding funds.
  • Use GettingOut for tablet messaging, photos, and Visit Now features where available.
  • Do not confuse phone funds, tablet funds, commissary deposits, mail money orders, and bond.
  • Do not discuss alleged facts, witnesses, drugs, weapons, money movement, victims, threats, or co-defendants on recorded systems.

All non-privileged calls, video visits, tablets, messages, and photos should be treated as monitored and reviewable. Use these systems for family logistics, attorney contact, health needs, work notification, childcare, and release planning. Do not use them for legal strategy.

V. Postal Mail, Postcards, Books, Money Orders & E-Messages

Pima County postal rules are strict and specific. Postcards have a maximum allowable size of 4.25 inches by 6 inches. Postcards are not accepted if they are defaced or altered, wrapped in plastic or other wrapping, contain nudity, sexual conduct, weapons, gang references, or glitter. Incoming postcards are digitally or physically copied, and inmates receive a copy by tablet or paper. Inmates do not receive the original postcard, and postcards are destroyed after 14 calendar days.

All personal mail coming into and leaving the facility must be sent by U.S. Mail. Mail is subject to search. Mail is not read except during an investigation. Inmates may not receive items that are available through the facility commissary. Inmates must have prior permission to receive incoming packages, and authorization must be obtained five days before a package is sent. This prior-authorization rule does not apply to books or publications sent from a publisher or widely accepted distributor.

Mailing address must include:

“Inmate Trust Account” if the envelope contains a money order or government check
Inmate’s Name
Pod Location
Booking Number
P.O. Box 951
Tucson, Arizona 85702

Important: The inmate’s pod location and booking number can be found through the official inmate lookup.

Acceptable forms of money, such as money orders or government checks, are removed from incoming mail and deposited into the inmate’s account. Envelopes containing acceptable funds must be addressed appropriately with “Inmate Trust Account.” Any other mail items included with the funds, such as personal letters or notes, will not be delivered and will be returned to the sender.

Legal mail must be sent in pre-printed/pre-stamped postage envelopes or metered postage. Only loose paper contents are acceptable. Legal mail may not be bound, stapled, or fastened in any manner. Legal mail manila envelopes are confiscated and destroyed, and the Corrections Bureau provides replacement manila envelopes for legal-mail storage.

Letters must be sent in pre-printed/pre-stamped postage envelopes or metered postage. Letters written with gel pens are no longer accepted and are returned to the sender. Family and friends may also use ConnectNetwork e-messages. E-messages can be up to 2,000 characters, cost $0.25 per message, and can include approved pictures or short videos for a nominal cost. E-messages are processed and delivered Monday through Friday.

Mail trap: Do not send glitter, altered postcards, gel-pen letters, commissary items, unauthorized packages, bound legal papers, stapled legal mail, or a personal letter inside a money-order envelope. Pima County rules are specific, and generic jail advice will fail here.

VI. Inmate Accounts, Property Release & Trial Clothing

Pima County inmate-account deposits follow strict rules. Personal checks are not accepted. Only U.S. bank checks and money orders are accepted at the Inmate Account Window, and there is no limit to the amount that may be deposited at that window. U.S. paper currency is accepted for the deposit amount only, with no change given. Coins are not accepted for deposits.

All deposits and disbursement transactions require the depositor or payee to show valid government-issued photo identification such as a driver license, Arizona ID, DES ID card, military ID, or passport. Check-cashing cards are not accepted. The Inmate Accounts counter hours listed by the Sheriff are Sunday through Saturday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Property release is handled separately. Inmates must maintain one full set of clothing with Inmate Property. Other stored personal property may be released to an outside party who is not in custody. Property releases and clothing exchanges are conducted at the Property Release / Exchange window in the property area of the Main Jail Complex. The inmate must initiate the release by submitting an Inmate Property Transaction form, and only the person named on the form may pick up the property.

Property release rules:
  • Property release / exchange window is at the Main Jail Complex property area.
  • Call (520) 351-8112 for property information.
  • Property Unit hours are listed as 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily.
  • Property may be picked up Monday-Friday 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM and Sunday 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
  • A valid government-issued photo ID is required for all property transactions.
  • Property not picked up within 30 days of an inmate’s transfer may be disposed of.

Inmates with an active Superior Court trial may have three sets of clothing for court appearances. One like item must be exchanged for another, such as shirt for shirt, trousers for trousers, shoes for shoes, or skirt for skirt. Shoelaces, neckties, belts, and underclothing or stockings are not accepted. Do not bring random clothing without confirming that trial clothing is authorized and that the inmate has initiated the required process.

VII. GTL GettingOut Video Visitation Rules & Scheduling

Pima County offers video visitation through GTL’s GettingOut Visit Now service. Remote video visits allow an incarcerated person to initiate a video visit through the GTL tablet, and the outside visitor uses a GettingOut account and mobile app. If the user already has a ConnectNetwork account, the same credentials may be used to log into GettingOut. The remote visit rate listed by the Sheriff is $0.25 per minute, charged only for visit time used.

All visits must be scheduled online or at the kiosk in the main entrance lobby. Same-day walk-in visits are not accepted. Onsite visitors report to the Main Jail Front Desk at 1270 W. Silverlake Road, Tucson, AZ 85713, 15 minutes before the scheduled visit time and must have valid photo identification. Visits start and end at the scheduled times regardless of arrival time; late arrival can cancel the visit.

Visitation rules to remember:
  • Schedule visits online or through the main-lobby kiosk.
  • Use GettingOut / GTL for remote video visits.
  • Visitor support for scheduling issues is listed as 855-208-7349.
  • No more than four people may visit at one time.
  • Juveniles must be accompanied by at least one adult.
  • Visitors must have current photo ID with photo, date of birth, and current address.
  • Special visits may be requested through the Jail Visits Hotline at (520) 351-8114 or (520) 351-8111.

All personal non-privileged video visits are subject to monitoring and recording by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and ViaPath Technologies. Visitors must be at least 18 years old to have an approved Friends and Family account. Visitors under 18 must remain on-screen with the adult account holder. Visitors are allowed only one account, and duplicate accounts may be suspended or blocked.

Visitation trap: Do not treat a remote video visit like a private video call. Background objects, unauthorized people, rule violations, late arrival, duplicate accounts, or case discussion can interrupt, cancel, or restrict visitation.

VIII. Court Information, Initial Appearances & Case Records

Pima County Sheriff’s Department states that initial appearances are conducted twice daily through video court. Inmates do not physically appear in the courtroom; they appear on video before the judge. Morning court is listed at 9:00 AM and evening court at 7:00 PM. If an inmate is ordered released during a video court hearing, release processing begins after the session and may take up to five hours.

The jail record and the court record are not the same thing. The inmate lookup helps answer whether a person is in custody at the Pima County Adult Detention Complex. The court record helps answer what case was filed, what hearing is scheduled, what the final disposition is, and whether certified court documents are available. The Pima County Clerk of the Superior Court provides case-record access for criminal, civil, family law, probate, guardianship, and marriage-license case categories, but public online information is limited and does not itself constitute an official record of court documents.

For limited-jurisdiction matters, Pima County Consolidated Justice Court provides case information for eligible matters, while felony and higher-level criminal proceedings may involve Superior Court. Online records can be incomplete, restricted, sealed, unavailable during maintenance, or not yet updated after a recent arrest. If the record is legally important, use official court channels and request certified copies rather than relying on a screenshot.

Use the correct source:
  • Current custody: Pima County Sheriff inmate lookup.
  • Bond and release: Pima County Sheriff bond page and Inmate Accounts Office.
  • Mail and funds: Pima County postal service and transfer-money rules.
  • Video visitation: GTL / GettingOut and the Sheriff visitation page.
  • Criminal case records: Pima County Clerk of the Superior Court or appropriate justice court.
  • Legal advice: Licensed attorney, not jail staff or clerk counter staff.

IX. Legal Counsel & Visitor Precedents: Crucial Tips

⚠️ Do Not Guess the Mail Format

Mail must include the inmate’s name, pod location, booking number, and P.O. Box 951 address. Money-order envelopes need “Inmate Trust Account.”

💸 Bond Release Has a Dead Zone

Bond transactions may process within the hour, but Pima County states no releases happen between about 10 PM and 8 AM.

🧾 Gel Pen Letters Fail

Pima County says letters written with gel pens are not accepted and will be returned. That tiny detail can ruin a family’s first mail attempt.

🎥 Video Visits Are Recorded

Personal video visits are monitored and recorded. Do not discuss allegations, witnesses, evidence, drugs, weapons, victims, or co-defendants.

X. Facility Jurisdiction Map

The Pima County Adult Detention Complex is located at 1270 W. Silverlake Road in Tucson, Arizona. Before traveling, confirm whether your task requires the jail front desk, Inmate Accounts window, property release window, visitation kiosk, jail records request, court appearance information, or Sheriff headquarters. These are related tasks, but they are not all handled by the same workflow.
