What “Booked” Means

Irving describes booking as the administrative process that documents a person’s entrance into jail. It includes collecting identifying information and the reason for arrest, inventorying personal property, photographing the person and taking fingerprints.

What Happens at Magistration?

Irving uses the term magistration for the formal meeting between a judge and a prisoner. The judge advises the prisoner of the charges, rights and applicable bond amount.

Irving Bond, Alias Warrants and Capias Pro Fine Warrants

The correct payment method depends on the type of warrant or criminal charge. Do not treat every amount in a custody record as payable through the same website or agency.

Irving Class C Misdemeanor Warrants

The Irving Jail FAQ currently lists these possible methods for resolving an Irving Class C misdemeanor warrant while a person is in custody:

• Cash.
• MasterCard, Visa or Discover.
• Release as “time served” after enough jail credit is earned.
• A combination of jail credit and cash or credit-card payment.

Alias Warrant

Irving defines an Alias warrant as a warrant where no plea has been entered. The individual, a bail bond company or an attorney can post a bond intended to assure the person’s appearance in court.

Capias Pro Fine Warrant

A Capias Pro Fine generally follows a case in which a plea was entered but the person did not complete the court agreement. Irving says options are generally limited to paying the fine in full or remaining in custody until sufficient jail credit produces a time-served release.

Outside-Jurisdiction Class C Warrants

Irving says an outside Class C misdemeanor may sometimes be payable through either the issuing agency or the City of Irving. However, the jail warns that most county agencies do not allow a city to accept bond or fine payments on county charges.

Verify the warrant agency before paying. Resolving one warrant does not necessarily release a person when another case or hold remains.

Felony or Non-Class-C Misdemeanor Bond

For a felony or misdemeanor other than a Class C misdemeanor, Irving directs users toward an attorney/bail bond company and the Dallas County Sheriff’s bond process.

Irving City Jail Visitation Hours and Rules

Visitor Requirements

• Visits are limited to 10 minutes.
• A maximum of two people may visit during a visitation period.
• Only one visitor is allowed at a time.
• Visitors must be at least 17 years old.
• A government-issued photo ID showing name and date of birth is required.
• Visitors must be appropriately dressed.
• Visitors are checked for outstanding warrants.
• Visitors are subject to search before entering the visitation room.

Retrieving Prisoner Property

A prisoner must provide written authorization before personal property can be released to another person. The recipient must complete the property-release process and present a driver’s license or other government-issued identification.

What Can Be Brought to a Prisoner?

The City’s current jail guidance is narrow because Irving is a temporary confinement facility.

• Prescription medication can be accepted and dispensed in the prescribed manner.
• One pair of underwear and socks may be brought for a prisoner each day.
• Underwire bras are prohibited.
• Personal convenience items and money cannot simply be added to the prisoner’s property.

Do not bring food, electronics, chargers, hygiene products, tobacco, cash or other personal items unless jail staff specifically confirms that the item can be accepted.

Impounded Vehicles After an Irving Arrest

The current City Auto Pound page says to call ahead for faster service. Have the license plate, VIN, impound number, registered-owner or driver name, vehicle description and related Irving Police report number when available.

Registered owners generally need valid government ID, current insurance and proof of ownership. Requirements differ when someone other than the registered owner retrieves the vehicle.

Victim Custody Notifications After a Dallas County Transfer

The City of Irving Victim Services page directs victims to custody-notification services when an arrestee has moved to Dallas County custody.

Texas made an administrative change on September 1, 2026: management of Texas IVSS-Counties moved from the Office of the Attorney General to the Office of the Governor. State guidance says the notification services themselves continue.

Irving Police and Jail-Related Record Requests

ICE Transfer

The Irving Jail page states that jail staff will not have information once a prisoner has been transferred into ICE custody. The City’s jail page lists a regional ICE contact number, but the most useful nationwide public search is ICE’s current Online Detainee Locator System.

ICE allows searches by A-Number and country of birth or by exact biographical information. The public locator does not search records for people under age 18.
