Henrico County Jail Inmate Search: Find Jail West or Jail East
The Henrico County Sheriff’s Office operates the official county-jail inmate lookup. Search there first for a person believed to be held in Henrico County Jail West or Henrico County Regional Jail East.
The jail lookup answers a custody question. Use Virginia court records separately for case status and disposition, and use the Virginia Department of Corrections locator when the person has moved into VADOC custody.

Fast Answer
Use the Henrico County Sheriff’s official inmate search for current Henrico jail information. The search supports last-name lookup and browsing by the starting letter of the last name. The Sheriff’s Office states that juvenile offenders are not included.
Once you find the correct person, check the listed facility because Henrico operates Jail West in Henrico and Regional Jail East in Barhamsville, New Kent County. For the criminal case itself, use the appropriate Virginia court rather than treating the jail entry as the final court record.

How to Use the Official Henrico County Inmate Search
- Open the Sheriff’s inmate search. Use the Henrico County Sheriff’s official inmate-information page rather than a copied roster or third-party inmate directory.
- Search by last name. The current search page supports a last-name search. You can also browse by the first letter of the last name.
- Open the matching inmate record carefully. Do not identify someone from a common name alone. Compare the inmate ID, full name, booking date, facility and other displayed details.
- Check the facility field. The result can identify Jail West, Jail East or another Henrico booking/housing description. Facility assignment can change.
- Use the court separately. The Sheriff warns users not to rely on inmate-search information for legal action and directs case-disposition questions to the charging agency or appropriate court clerk.
- Verify again before acting. Call the jail or recheck the official record before travelling, paying, mailing, scheduling visitation or making another time-sensitive decision.

What the Henrico Inmate Record Can Show
Individual Henrico inmate-detail records can display several practical custody fields. Treat each field as current jail information rather than a complete criminal-history or final-court record.
| Field | What it helps answer | Important caution |
|---|---|---|
| Inmate ID | Helps distinguish one Henrico inmate record from another. | Do not confuse it with a Virginia court case number or VADOC number. |
| Full name | Identifies the name attached to the custody record. | A common name alone is not enough for identity matching. |
| Booking date | Shows when the listed Henrico booking was entered. | It is not a conviction date. |
| Projected release date | May show a projected date when one exists in the system. | Do not treat a projected date as a guaranteed release date or time. |
| Facility | Helps determine whether the person is associated with Jail West, Jail East or another local housing/booking designation. | Housing can change after the record is viewed. |
| Next court date / location | May provide a convenient court-related reference when populated. | Confirm through the Virginia court system before relying on it. |
| Bond amount | May display a bond-related dollar field. | A displayed amount alone does not prove the person is immediately releasable. |
| Charge description | May identify charges associated with the custody record. | A charge is an allegation, not proof of guilt or final case disposition. |

Use Fewer Search Terms
Recheck spelling and search the last name again. Common formatting, suffix or name differences can prevent an immediate match.
Recent Booking
A newly arrested person may still be moving through identification, booking, medical screening or other intake steps before the public record is easy to locate.
Check VADOC
If the person has been transferred into Virginia Department of Corrections custody, use the VADOC Inmate & Supervisee Locator.
Check Federal / ICE if Relevant
A federal or immigration matter may require BOP, ICE or another responsible agency rather than the Henrico county-jail search.
Henrico Court Records: Check the Case Separately
The inmate record and the court record serve different purposes. The jail lookup is useful for current custody and housing. Virginia court systems should be used for the criminal case, hearing information and disposition.
Henrico General District Court
The General District Court handles misdemeanors, traffic matters and preliminary hearings in felony cases.

Bond, Bail and the Henrico Magistrate
A bond field in the inmate search is not enough by itself to determine whether a person can be released. Another case, warrant, detainer, court condition or processing requirement can affect release.
Henrico Magistrate’s Office
Virginia magistrates conduct bail hearings after arrests to determine the conditions under which an arrested person may be released before trial.

Pretrial Services After Release
If a person is released on bond and specifically ordered to report to Henrico Community Corrections Pretrial Services, Henrico’s current intake instructions require reporting that day before 4:00 p.m. If release occurs after that time, the person must report the next business day during intake hours.
Pretrial Services: 804-501-5245, Human Services Building, 8600 Dixon Powers Drive, Henrico, VA 23228. Follow the person’s actual court order; not every release includes the same supervision requirement.
Henrico Jail Video Visitation
Virtual visitation is available for both Jail West and Jail East. Henrico currently uses the GettingOut / ViaPath visitation system.
- Create and verify the visitor account. GettingOut requires account setup and verification of the visitor’s email address and phone number.
- Use the supported mobile visitation app. Henrico’s current instructions refer visitors to the GettingOut/GoVisits mobile process for video visits.
- Use Visit Now when available. Henrico explains that Visit Now can allow an inmate-initiated visit without advance scheduling when the feature is available.
- Follow facility rules. Scheduled visits remain subject to jail rules, housing moves and restrictions. Late arrival can result in cancellation of a reservation.
