What to Do When the Hernando Jail Search Shows No Result
- Recheck the spelling. Try the legal last name and remove unnecessary middle names or punctuation.
- Confirm Hernando County. An arrest near the county line may have been processed in Citrus, Pasco, Sumter or another jurisdiction.
- Allow for booking time. A very recent arrest may not appear until identity, charges and intake processing are entered.

Posting bond or receiving a release order starts a process; it does not mean the person can walk out immediately.

Electronic Messages and Photos
SmartInmate supports two-way electronic messaging and one-way electronic photo delivery. Electronic photos are reviewed by facility staff before delivery.
Examples of material the Sheriff’s Office says can cause an electronic photo to be rejected include weapons, drugs, gang-related content, sexually explicit material, correctional-facility images, tattoo samples, photo collages and certain printed or written images.

Inmate Property & Money Release
Property pickup is not automatic simply because a family member arrives at the jail.
- The inmate authorizes the release. The inmate must complete and sign a Property Release Form.
- The form goes to the Property Technician. Staff process the authorization before pickup.
- Pickup must occur within five business days. Do not wait indefinitely after receiving notice.
- Release clothing is retained. The facility keeps one complete set of clothing for the inmate’s eventual release.
- Money release is limited. HCSO says an inmate may release money once during incarceration, but a minimum $50 balance must remain.
Medical Care, Mental Health & PREA Safety
Medical Care Inside the Detention Center
HCSO says incarcerated people request routine medical care through a medical request on the housing-unit kiosk. Medical staff screen requests daily, and routine sick call is normally conducted daily.
The Sheriff’s medical page also states that a doctor and psychiatric nurse practitioner are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week for emergency health needs, including dental emergencies.
